Japan IT Week, 14-16 May, 2014

Tokyo Big Sight, Japan

================================================

Electronics & Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) India’s apex trade promotion organisation is entrusted to facilitate India’s electronics and information technology exports to global markets. As a link between the Government and member exporter, ESC provides a platform for interaction on policy issues. It has around 2300 member companies engaged in export of:

  • Electronics Hardware
  • Information technology and services
  • IT enabled services
  • Telecom hardware & software

ESC has successfully steered the direction of India’s Electronics and Software Exports to achieve the export volumes of over US $ 84 billion during 2012-13.

For more information, please logon to, www.escindia.in

Further, we are pleased to inform that ESC is planning to organise its repeat participation @ Japan IT WEEK 2014 - Japan’s largest IT Show scheduled to take place at Tokyo, Japan during 14-16 May, 2014.

Japan IT Week is the largest trade show where participants can find latest IT Technologies / Solutions. A great number of Information Systems Manager, Management Executives, Sales Managers, System Integrators and Managers from IT system division will visit the exhibition to conduct business with exhibitors. Japan IT Week is absolutely business point for both IT Solution Providers and IT System Managers.

As the Indian IT industry crosses $100 billion in revenues and aims for the next $100 billion, it cannot afford to ignore Japan, the world's largest IT market after the US. Most large Indian IT providers have been present in Japan for close to 20 years but success has been slow in coming. Of the $125-billion Japanese IT services market, Indian service providers get only $500 million.  Embedded services, which is part of the manufacturing cost, contributes another $500 million, according to technology researcher Gartner.  In all, Japan contributes less than 2% of India's software exports.

As of 2013, the Japanese IT industry is estimated to be in excess of $120 billion. Out of this chunk, Indian IT service providers get only about $500 million, which is very miniscule. Indian IT companies have established a presence in Japan for the past 20 odd years or so. However, Japan contributes to a little more than 1% of India’s software exports.

Advantages for India

The current slump in the economy has forced Japan to adopt new models for delivering software. More and more Japanese companies are opening to the idea of using readymade software packages rather than custom built solutions. Secondly, Indian cultural values are more close to the Japanese than the West, and can work as an advantage for India.

18:40 - 18:50 - Address by Mr. Arvind Singh (Minister, Economic - Embassy of India, Tokyo)
18:50 - 19:50 -

  1. Interim Budget 2014

On February 17, 2014 the Hon’ble Finance Minister of India presented before the Parliament the interim budget for the year 2014-15. This time it was an interim budget, and not a full-fledged budget because the current Government’s tenure will end in the month of May. The new Government will take charge and will present a regular budget in the month of June or July. We will discuss the key tax proposals of the interim budget 2014.

  2. India-Japan Social Security Agreement (SSA)
The Governments of India and Japan signed the Social Security Agreement on 16th November, 2012. Although not yet officially confirmed, the SSA is expected to be come into force in April or May this year. Currently, employees who are temporarily dispatched to India by Japanese companies and to Japan by Indian companies are obliged to join the social security system of both countries, thus causing duplicate payments of social security contribution. The SSA, once effective, is aimed to solve this problem.
    • Problem of dual coverage of social security laws in the absence of a SSA
    • Benefits which India-Japan SSA gives to the employer and the employees
    • Procedures for availing benefits under the SSA
    • How companies can prepare themselves before the SSA becomes effective
