Special Session on the Indian Budget of 2013

Written by Aniruddha Mallik on . Posted in News & Updates

Budget 2013

In order to have an in depth analysis of the Budget 2013, the Embassy of India is organizing an interactive session on the Indian Budget of 2013 on March 12, 2013 (Tuesday) from 15:45 hrs to 17:30 hrs at the India Cultural Centre (ICC) auditorium, Embassy of India, 2-2-11 Kudan-Minami, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 102-0074.

HE Mrs. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, Ambassador of India to Japan will make introductory remarks. The main presentation titled "Budget 2013 : Cautious Optimism" will be made by Mr. Sharad Goyal, Senior Manager (India Practice), Deloitte Tohmatsu Tax Co., Tokyo.

The interactive session provides an unique opportunity to know about the highlights of the budget particularly major direct and indirect proposals which could have impact on companies and individuals.

All are welcome to attend and admission is free.

Here's a brief preview of the session in the words of Mr. Sharad Goyal:

"The Union Budget held special importance this year as it was announced in the backdrop of a challenging macroeconomic environment where India had achieved its lowest GDP growth in a decade characterized with a depressed global economic outlook and prevalence of domestic policy bottlenecks. Expectations were therefore high as to the path the Finance Minister will take in guiding the Indian economy to a recovery especially in view the welcoming policy announcements made in the second half of 2012.
Though there were no high profile announcements or big recovery plans outlined, the Finance Minister did not disappoint rather. By limiting the Fiscal Deficit for 2012-13 to 5.2%, the Finance Minister has fulfilled his commitment and showed the way for fiscal consolidation in future as well. Even though the long-term prospects of the economy looks promising, cautious optimism is the tone in the short to medium term.
The Finance Minister did not speak or take any action to neutralize last year’s retrospective amendment to tax indirect transfer. This was disappointing and left one guessing. From direct and indirect tax front, no changes, or in fact ‘no major surprises’ is the key highlight of this Budget, besides surcharge on super-rich and highly profitable corporates."

Venue: Embassy of India, Tokyo
Date: March 12, 2013
Time: 15:45 - 17:30 JST

Thank you.
